Just a Funny Story

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
To sing praises to the Most High.
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
Your faithfulness in the evening,
Accompanied by the ten-stringed harp
And the melody of the lyre.
Psalm 92:1-3

I have a friend who sometimes comes up to me after church and says, “OK, my favorite part of today was…” and then she relates some funny incident that happened to her. She has a great attitude, and since I love to laugh, I thoroughly enjoy hearing her antidote. Well, this past Sunday it was my turn.

Here we are in the second service, standing up front while Tim does announcements, waiting to begin the segment where the praise team leads the singing. While reviewing in my mind how I plan on introducing the new song, I look down and see my son, Caleb, tickling his friend James. No parents are around. Tim and I and James’ parents are all up front helpless.

Foreseeing the tickling escalating, James retaliating, and the boys causing a great disturbance, I try to catch Caleb’s eye. Finally, he looks up at me. I do the “mother look” while shaking my head and mouthing “shh”. Just then Tim’s words catch my attention, “So, if you want to know what the Pastor’s wives are thinking, check out their blogs.” I just about start laughing. I could almost feel people looking at me and thinking, “We know what she’s thinking!”

I am so grateful to our church family who admits that my children (and their parents) are real people, and they allow us to be a normal family – NOT a super-family.
