Glowing with Health
“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over.”
Proverbs 3: 5-10 (The Message)
Yesterday I contemplated how life can really change in a year – I know many of you can identify with that! Last year at this time I had known for about a month that I would teach Nursery School, a challenge I had never done before, but one which I trusted God to guide me through. And He did! The year flew by as I learned to love those children and their families, to appreciate the teachers I worked with, and to flex my creative muscles. However, life changes.
Last spring most of the class graduated and there was no insurgence of new families. So, with much prayer and some tears, we decided not to reopen the Nursery School this year. Thus yesterday occurred – the day when I cleaned my desk in the family room and packed away boxes of Nursery School lesson plans and ideas. I also finished calling the remaining School Families to alert them to the closure. As I talked with them I was touched with their concern for me. I will miss the close-knit nature of a school filled with caring families and teachers.
So, I think again of Proverbs 3:5-10. God does direct our paths. We cannot always figure out the why of what He does, but we know that He is the one who will keep us on track. In fact, if we honor him with everything then he will help us truly live.
And I know that’s true. Yes, I cleaned off my desk of Nursery School items. In their place I stacked books because, starting this Thursday, I will attend the Northeastern Seminary for a Masters in Theology. I continually pray that God will direct my life, and that I will submit to his leading. Last spring I thought that I would attend school and teach preschool. God obviously knows my limitations! So, as these changes unfold, I look forward to “glowing with health” and letting my “bones vibrate with life”. What a word picture for truly living. Living life right where God wants us. What could be more satisfying than that?
