The Mundane
“Live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
Philippians 1:27a
Last night I sat down to write a blog and, honestly, nothing came to mind. However, I knew it had been awhile since I wrote, so I thought I probably should come up with something! But as I thought through my day, my mind came up blank of anything worthy of telling you about.
I took Tim to the Oral Surgeon to get all four of his wisdom teeth extracted. They even needed to use the drill on one! Bummer!! But so far he seems to be recovering fine. Hmm. What else? Newly whipped cream spilled all over the floor and refrigerator door after Miriam and I made cream puffs. I played “Chutes and Ladders” with Caleb. Ryan did many pages in his technique piano book. I began compiling information for my paper on comparing the prophet, wisdom teacher and psalmist. I cleaned out Bob, our hamster’s, cage. See? What did I tell you! Nothing too horrific, earth shattering or incredibly happy.
As I woke up this morning, the thought came to me. Chances are your life included the “average” as well. I’m not complaining. The average brings calm and peace to life. The problem is, sometimes we get so caught up in the average that we forget that even that needs to reflect who we really are. We are women, bought with a price, who now serve a powerful, all-wise king. Why did he buy us? Because of love.
Can you even believe that God loves you? Really loves you? I know that I lose sight of that as I just live my daily life. Sometimes I even willfully turn my back on that as I choose to react to situations in a way not corresponding to his love.
Hopefully your lives are full of the mundane. As we go through the daily routines of our lives, let’s remind ourselves and each other that even in the average day we have multiple opportunities for our attitudes and actions to either shine for or shame our master.
If you’re NOT in the mundane right now and life seems too much to bear, if repeated struggles make you fall into bed at night (or in the middle of the day) just wishing to give up, remember that you too were bought with a price. You are loved. God longs to reach out and pull you to him as you open your heart to him. It’s ok to tell him your struggles. It’s ok to voice your fears and frustrations. After all if you can’t tell the one person who can do something about it, who can you tell?
